📄 Letter: The case for a stronger AgoraEU

We joined ore than 500 organisations representing Europe’s cultural, media, and civil society sectors who have signed a joint letter calling for a substantial increase in funding for AgoraEU, the dedicated EU programme supporting civil society, independent media, journalism, and audiovisual media. Despite its strategic importance, AgoraEU currently represents just 0.43% of the total EU budget, leaving a critical gap at a time when structural pressures on the sector are growing and other major funders are stepping back.

Democratic resilience depends on thousands of everyday activities that inform, equip, and empower citizens to participate in public life. The letter, coordinated by the Future of Europe Coalition and led by Culture Action Europe alongside Civil Society Europe, European Civic Forum, European Federation of Journalists, and others, urges the European Parliament to back proposals for increased AgoraEU funding in the next long-term EU budget.
