CEE Digital Democracy Watch presents its latest analysis — The Hidden Power of TikTok Live, a report exploring political influence mechanisms in the digital environment across Central and Eastern Europe.
The report shows how TikTok Live is being used in Poland to spread hate speech, pro‑Russian narratives and impersonations of state institutions, in clear contradiction of TikTok’s own Community Guidelines. Over three months of research into 114 Polish‑language accounts, the authors document extremist content promoted via the For You Feed and push notifications, monetisation through BLIK, crypto and crowdfunding, and cross‑platform coordination that spills over into offline mobilisation.
The report concludes with concrete policy asks, including the temporary suspension of TikTok LIVE in the EU until stronger moderation, transparency and archiving standards are in place, as well as specific recommendations for the European Commission, Polish regulators and TikTok itself.
