📨 LETTER TO THE COMMISSION: For an ambitious DFA

We have joined over 200 civil society organisations and academics in calling on the European Commission to deliver an ambitious Digital Fairness Act. Dark patterns, addictive platforms, and unfair personalisation erode people’s ability to make free and informed choices, with direct consequences for how citizens engage with public life and democratic processes. Europe’s legitimate concern with competitiveness must be balanced against the fundamental right of citizens to a trustworthy and transparent information environment.

We urge Michael McGrath, Commissioner for Democracy, Justice and Rule of Law, to resist the temptation to equate simplification with deregulation, and to recognise in the proposal he is expected to present by autumn 2026 that strong digital rights are inseparable from a functioning democracy.
