State of Online Political Campaigning: Inside The 2024 Election Mega Year: The 2024 election mega year was anticipated to be plagued by disinformation, deep fakes, and tech disruptions in the election process. At CEE Digital Democracy Watch, we monitored elections in the region and will share insider knowledge on the halfway point of the season, highlighting which fears materialised, which proved baseless, and which still hold potential for escalation. Did societal education efforts, changes in Big Tech’s approach, and new regulations pay off? Will the U.S. election shift the balance? And what does all this mean for the future of political campaigning?
