2026 Elections in Central and Eastern Europe

With elections approaching across Central and Eastern Europe in 2026, new online regulations and emerging technologies are reshaping the information environment and raising new questions about campaign transparency. Civic organisations should remain active, exchange experiences, and strengthen monitoring skills to safeguard democratic integrity.

This week we met with experts from Hungarian organisations to discuss current challenges and strategies to counter them. The exchange provided concrete insights into how civic groups adapt to rapid regulatory shifts and coordinate monitoring under pressure, opening new ideas for cross-border cooperation and methodological innovation. As we keep our fingers crossed for Hungarian NGOs ahead of their elections, we are already planning to host them in Poland afterward to reflect on lessons learned and share experiences with our sector.

A detailed summary of the discussions is available upon request. We thank Wacław Felczak Polish-Hungarian Cooperation Institute for making this project possible.
