Civic society in Central and Eastern Europe is being impacted by ongoing changes in the digital landscape – new foreign interference and disinformation tools, such as AI, content moderation challenges and unprecedented obstacles to political civic discourse. This was one of the key worries of 2024, the mega-election year that witnessed unprecedented levels of campaigning from political parties, as well as NGOs.
Continuing the workshop series on Protecting Digital Civic Space in the EU, we held a meeting in Budapest on December 10th. We gathered civic society leaders to explore how today’s digital environment is shaping their work. We mapped out how online civic communications connect with the EU’s legal landscape and the upcoming digital priorities.
We’d like to thank participants for sharing their experience and perspective and we’re looking forward to our last workshop in Bucharest on January 21st!
